The model overview

Last updated: 25 Jan 2016

Other than the main model, several other programs or model extensions form the complete Cosmo system. The following diagram shows most of them and their relation. An arrow between them indicates the flow of data along a pair

In short, this is what each part implements:

The program that prepares the input for the COSMO model
The forecasting model
ICs & BCs
Initial and boundary conditions can come from a global model (like ICON/IFS) or the COSMO model itself (for high resolution nested runs) and in various formats (grib/grib2/netCDF)
A generic tool to manipulate NWP model data and gridded observations; simple data processing and more complex data operations are supported.
An implementation of model verification (read, store, compute and present) using open source tools
Optional add-on to COSMO model for calculating the interactions of gases and aerosols with the atmosphere
The climatic version of COSMO
A multi-layer soil-vegetation-atmosphere transfer model, for regional climate application
Community Land Model
A climate model freely available to the scientific community
